El sábado 14 de febrero la Universidad Popular de Albacete organizó el primer encuentro de esparteros/as. Un día fantástico, mucho conocimiento sobre el esparto acumulado entre la gente y una amplia y curiosa exposición. Aquí dos imágenes, Victoria con su cesta en punto de cofín y claro que si, un bolso. Un bolso de bici hecho por Luis para un bici Holandés. ¡Espero que vamos a tener un segundo encuentro el año que viene!

The "Universidad Popular" from Albacete organized an open day for esparto interested people. It was a fantastic day where you could learn a lot and with a huge and curious exhibition. Here two photos, Victoria with her basket in "punto de cofín" and of course a bag. A bag for a bicycle made by Luis for -of course- a dutch bike! I hope we will have a second get-together next year!

Ojo, el sábado, 11 de abril, durante todo el día podéis aprender trabajar con mimbre. Una preciosa fibra vegetal procedente de un arbusto de la familia de los sauces. Una oportunidad única. Este año lo haremos en el nuevo centro cultural "Ojala" en Liria.

another friend, another bag

This is a bag for my friend Xelo. It´s a small one ( 22 x 22 cm. approx.) but it is big enough to take her daily things with her. It has a cotton inner bag with a zipper and a leather strip to close the bag. It has a long leather band which I adapted to Xelo´s size and taste.

Este bolso hice para mi amiga Xelo. No es muy grande ( 22 x 22 cm. más o menos) pero es suficientemente grande para llevar sus cosas diarias. Hay una bolsita de algodón dentro con una cremallera y una tira de cuero para cerrar el bolso. Hay una larga correa de cuero adaptada al gusto de Xelo.

In January our neighbors finally harvested the corn. The result is the "corn bag" which I made for my friend Marta.

En enero, por fin, nuestros vecinos cosecharon el maíz. El resultado es el "bolso-maíz" que hice para mi amiga Marta.

El Palo Santo

En mi pueblo un "palo santo" es un "kakero", es decir el árbol de kakis. Para Elton hice un frutero con "palo santo", sin kakis pero con manzanas.

In our village a "palo santo" (holy stick) is a "kakero". It´s a tree with kaki fruit.
For Elton I made a fruit basket with a holy stick, without kakis but with apples.

Salt 2014

La pieza gigante de Salt. Un trabajo hecho entre muchos.

Y una preciosa exposición de trabajos con fibra vegetal hechos por artesanos de Uganda. La exposición está organizada y compuesta por Jette Mellgren quién también ha editado el libro "Flettekultur i Uganda" sobre Uganda, sus habitantes y sus historias impresionantes y con algunas técnicas de trenzados de ahí.

There was also a beautiful exhibition about crafts with vegetal fibers from people of Uganda. The exhibition was curated by Jette Mellgren who also published the book "Flettekultur i Uganda". The book tells about Uganda and its inhabitants with impressive stories about their lives and explains plaiting techniques from there.
